It's a family Affair

God has made everything. He has acted in exactly the right way. He is bringing his many sons and daughters to share in his glory. To do so, he has made the One who saved them perfect because of his sufferings. The One who makes people holy and the people he makes holy belong to the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.
Hebrews 2:10-11 (NIRV)

The Premise:

  • God has made everything.
  • He has acted in exactly the right way.

So God has made everything and made no mistakes. Everything that resulted from Gods handy work is perfect to his purpose.  How often do we look at ourselves and think it would have been better if I was this or I was that?  Do we question how we ended up with the set of circumstances we have before us or the family members that rub us the wrong way? Then there is THAT person that sits in that pew that really… well thank the Lord I’m not them!

STOP!! God didn’t mess up, he didn’t make a mistake ‘He has acted in exactly the right way’! Each of these things are part of his design and executed in the manner he intended.  So if this is the case why would we question an all knowing God?  You are perfect. As well as your family and yes, even ‘that’ member of the family.  And as for ‘that person’ that sits in ‘that’ pew, yes God created them too as well as the wood that made the pew they sit in. ‘God has made everything’!

Additional Premise:

  • He (God) brings many sons and daughters to share in his glory.
  • He gave us Jesus who saved by his sacrifice to atone our sins.
  • Jesus makes folk holy! And these holy folks all belong to the same family.

As Christians we become family.  Ever wonder why so often we refer to each other as brother and sister.  It’s because we became a member of the Christ’s family when we accepted his gift of salvation.  Ohh and back to that tenth verse, God’s plan was that we would be in this family to share in God’s glory.  Even more, we don’t do anything to make us holy, Jesus does that.  He makes up for our short comings, his offering purifies us.  We could never measure up to God’s perfection but we are perfectly holy because Jesus make us holy.  And God in the form of man still doesn’t make mistakes he doesn’t settle for ‘good enough’. We are a holy family; each and every one of us.

Final Premise:

  • So Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.

Despite our perceived imperfections and shortcomings Jesus is not ashamed of us.  And while, here on this earth this may not seem like that big of a deal what with us being men and women in a world filled with men and women.  But when I take my last breath.  When I step from this earthly existence and stand before the throne of God.  And I face my judgment with the knowledge of how I have squandered my gifts, failed my master time and time again, and take stock of all the reasons I am NOT worthy.

God will demand someone answer for my sorted life.  And Jesus my brother will answer on my behalf.  He will not be ashamed of me and stand with me before the Father.

So when you hear another call you brother or sister remember this.  We are all part of God’s family and our bother Jesus stands with us.  Live each and every hour in joy of what God and Jesus has done for us. God who created us perfect in every way and Jesus who has made us perfectly holy!  And understand that all those about you are part of this creation of God.  Some brothers and sisters and some yet to join the family, to be made holy. Those are the ones we live to bring to Jesus!
